Croft at Sailean on the Scottish island of Lismore
I love this wee place. The combination of couple of abandoned crofts, beautiful wind battered trees, the sea, and some West coast magic, means there’s always something to photograph. We nipped over to Sailean at the start of another beautiful Lismore weekend, and we were treated to bright sunshine and tiny white clouds in a deep blue sky. I was immediately taken by the shadows the old tree was casting on the grass beside the croft.

Tree emerging from the mist
The trees were looking a bit spooky as the mist cleared this afternoon.

A winter tree
While I was out at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay festivities, I spotted this tree, which looked completely stunning under the floodlights. I couldn’t resist a quick photo!

Dusk on Lismore
There’s a wee abandoned croft at Sailean on the North side of Lismore, near the community hall. It’s a lovely spot for watching the sun go down.

Autumn in the Square
There’s a very dramatic tree tucked away in the corner of St Andrew’s Square

Autumn colours
I was so sure I’d find some good autumn colours this week. Everything was looking a bit insipid when I was up North recently, but just towards the end of the trip, some of the trees were beginning to show a hint of autumn colour about them. I headed off up the Water of Leith this morning, in lovely sunny weather. But other than the beech trees there’s still a preponderance of green and rather lifeless yellow.
But I did find these few beeches, which were definitely putting on a good show. Thanks to José for suggesting this one for a gallery photo title!

Autumn leaves

Autumn leaves

So Isobel set the challenge this week to take a photo titled ‘Autumn leaves’. I was hoping I would find a few more Autumnal colours by the weekend, but there still seems to be a lot of green around here at the moment. But earlier on today, I went out for a spin on the bike, and found this…it feels a bit of a half measure, as this is really ‘Autum leaf’.

Mull
We were treated to quite a light show as we left the house on Mull this morning – heavy grey clouds, patches of sunlight, and a couple of cracking rainbows, too. I love this tree just outside the house at Ardvergnish.

Late night walk

It was almost dark as we were heading home from a walk, and came across this beautiful tree
