Sunset over Fife
Sunset over Fife
Last night was one of those lovely calm quiet evenings with the promise of a good sunset. I decided to head up Calton hill with my camera, to see if there was any prospect of some landscape photos as the sun went down. It was beautiful up on the hill. It always amazes me how easy it is to get a feeling of leaving the city behind, just by climbing a small hill. There were very few people up there, despite the lovely weather.
I sat up watching the glow over Fife for ages, and ended up with a batch of sunset photos I’m quite pleased with.

Croft at Sailean on the Scottish island of Lismore
I love this wee place. The combination of couple of abandoned crofts, beautiful wind battered trees, the sea, and some West coast magic, means there’s always something to photograph. We nipped over to Sailean at the start of another beautiful Lismore weekend, and we were treated to bright sunshine and tiny white clouds in a deep blue sky. I was immediately taken by the shadows the old tree was casting on the grass beside the croft.

Tree emerging from the mist
The trees were looking a bit spooky as the mist cleared this afternoon.

Fife trees
The farmer was burning some stubble just up the hill from here as we passed through Fife. It gave a lovely hazy effect behind these trees. I couldn’t resist stopping to take a few pictures.

Sunset in Perthshire, Scotland
There was a completely clear sky last night, and a superb sunset in Newtyle, Perthshire. These trees made a lovely silhouette as the sun went down.

Bridge over the Water of Leith at Stockbridge
This was a lucky moment! I was returning home from taking photos of a dental surgery in Leith. I’d decided to head along the Water of Leith, and I noticed this amazing sky just as I approached the bridge at the end of Saunders Street in Stockbridge.

Edinburgh reflections
Well, there’s been a bit of a theme going on with recent posts here and on my Facebook page, and today is no different. Although I decided to take today off, I couldn’t resist trying to capture a couple more early evening puddle refections. The first one is Portobello, and the second is the colonies at Haymarket.

Dusk on Lismore
There’s a wee abandoned croft at Sailean on the North side of Lismore, near the community hall. It’s a lovely spot for watching the sun go down.

Old farm gate
I was cycling back from a fruitless trip looking for autumnal photos when I spotted this lovely old wooden farm gate this afternoon.

The North East
I’m just back home from a trip up to the North East – lots of photos taken, good fiddle tunes and good company – thanks Steve!
