Daffodils at Edinburgh castle

The sun brought loads of folk out into the centre of town today. I went into the Grassmarket to take some pictures in preparation for the  April photography workshop I’m running. I ended up on the castle esplanade, and then spotted the daffodils. There’s a really spectacular display on the slopes below Edinburgh castle, overlooking Princes Street Gardens.

Portobello prom in the morning sun

I was out early yesterday, enjoying a bit of early morning sun on the promenade at Portobello. There’s a whole lot of  water on the beach at low tide at the moment, which is making for some good opportunities for reflection photos. Here’s the Espy, at the bottom of Bath Street.

Fife trees

The farmer was burning some stubble just up the hill from here as we passed through Fife. It gave a lovely hazy effect behind these trees. I couldn’t resist stopping to take a few pictures.

Sunset in Perthshire, Scotland

There was a completely clear sky last night, and a superb sunset in Newtyle, Perthshire. These trees made a lovely silhouette as the sun went down.

Bridge over the Water of Leith at Stockbridge

This was a lucky moment!  I was returning home from taking photos of a dental surgery in Leith. I’d decided to head along the Water of Leith, and I noticed this amazing sky just as I approached the bridge at the end of Saunders Street in Stockbridge.

Textures and backgrounds

Since I started taking photos, I’ve been fascinated by shapes, textures, and detail, and often take close up photos of buildings, nature and textiles etc. I’ve been building up a portfolio of  pictures, many of which would work well as  background images for promotional materials, website pages etc. Here’s a selection of  backgrounds I have available to buy on my website.

Forks and spades

We were away with the choir this weekend, staying at an amazing place in the borders called Kilquhanity Children’s Village. It’s one of those superb old houses with sprawling grounds which have all manner of interesting nooks and crannies to investigate. It’s beautifully peaceful and very welcoming place to stay.

While we were there I ran a short photography workshop, (partly as preparation for my Edinburgh workshops which will start on 28th April – thanks to everyone who took part!). On one of the brief assignments, one of the participants found  a shed full of an array of bits and pieces.
