The Photography Scotland website is home to Ros Gasson’s stunning photos of some of Scotland’s beautiful places, people and events. Ros is a music, events and landscape photographer, based in Edinburgh.
On these pages you’ll find Scottish landscapes, seascapes, sunsets, city photography, close-ups, fascinating people and photography from all manner of Scottish events. There are photos from the Highlands, the Lowlands, and and from the islands around Scotland’s coasts, images of mountains, glens, snow and sunshine…and pictures of anything related to Scottish traditional music.
I’ve been photographing music and events around Scotland for a number of years. As a fiddle player myself, I’ve been involved in the Scottish traditional music scene for nealry 20 years. I love to experience music from the perspective of being a photographer, capturing a visual record of fleeting moments that can otherwise be easily missed. I’ve developed a resource of varied traditional music, song and dance images which can be licensed for you to use to publicise your own events.
I’m lucky to have access to such a variety of traditional music events to photograph. The annual Edinburgh Harp Festival, Ceilidh Culture, and the Scots Fiddle Festival are all right on my doorstep. Festivals such as Celtic Connections in Glasgow bring numerous world famous musicians to the city each year. Across Scotland there’s also an enormous number of live music sessions in pubs, festivals, regular folk club events, ceilidhs, workshops and community events. These provide plenty of more relaxed opportunities to take photographs of our amazing musicians in action. There’s more information about my music photography on the Photography Scotland music page.
I’m also a photographer at festivals and other events. Edinburgh is the festival city. It’s home to the world famous Edinburgh International Festival, Fringe Festival and New Year Street Party as part of the city’s Hogmanay celebrations. I love being part of the energy that festivals bring to the city. With festivals such as the Canal Festival, the Edinburgh Mela, Portobello beach busks, Beltane, and torchlit processions, the city is buzzing throughout the year. And from time to time, I stray into other cities with my camera too. Find out more about my events photography on the Photography Scotland events page.

Scotland is a beautiful country, with enough variety to keep any photographer occupied for a lifetime. I love exploring the west coast and the islands around Scotland. You’ll find plenty of images here from places such the Outer Hebrides, Mull, Skye and further afield.
